Stephenson County Sheriff, Steve Stovall, pushed for his special Crime Suppression Unit when he first took office. And while money was limited, he was still able to persuade the County Board to approve enough money to get the program started with two deputies hired specifically to handle the special assignments.
"The plan was to stop being reactionary to crime, and try to be proactive," Stovall explained. "This unit went through special training to help address the major increase in crime we saw along the US 20 corridor."
And while there may have been some initial skeptics, the results turned...
