Van Merchant Scholarships

This year, the Van Merchant Rural & Agriculture Scholarship Fund awarded $20,200 to 21 students.

Shortly before the Pecatonica farmer passed away in 2020 at the age of 85, Merchant outlined his wishes for a fund to support area graduates’ skill development as they sought farm-based careers.

This year, Luke Stabenow received the largest scholarship of $5,000. The 2024 Lena-Winslow graduate is currently attending WyoTech to prepare for a career as a diesel mechanic.
