Darlene I Womack, 91

Darlene I Womack, 91, of Rockford, IL formerly of Lena, IL passed away peacefully on Friday, July 7, 2023 surrounded by her family. She was born in Warren, IL on March 4, 1932, to Wilhelm and Elsie (Broege) Tessendorf. In September of 1954 she married Marvin Diestelmeier and together they had 2 children. In April 1974 she married Wayne Womack in Lena, IL.

Darlene worked at Lena Locker for many years, until she opened the Malt Shoppe in Lena, where she served her community for many years. In 1992 she moved to Rockford and started working at Highlander Grocery Store. She then worked at Hobby Lobby for many years until her retirement. In her spare time she loved beading, reading, and spending time with her dog and cat.

Darlene is survived by her two children-Stephen Diestelmeier and Calvin Sr. (Marylin) Diestelmeier; one grandson-Calvin Diestelmeier Jr .; two great grandchildren- Elaina and Carter Diestelmeier; two nephews-Allen and Daylon Scheele; one niece-Dianna Popowski.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Wayne in 2009; brother Ellsworth Tessendorf in infancy; sister-Shirley (Orrin) Scheele.

A visitation was held on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Leamons Funeral Home in Lena. A Private Family Graveside Service will take place at Elmwood Cemetery in Warren. Pastor David Russell officiated the services.
