On Thursday, March 30, a Status hearing was scheduled for the Stephanie Broshous trial taking place at the Stephenson County Courthouse.
A Status Hearing is basically when both parties – the prosecution and defense – appear before the judge to ensure that progress is being made on a resolution. For example, all discovery materials have been given to the defense by the prosecution, or there are negotiations for a plea deal being made, etc. In short, it is for the court to be sure that neither side is dragging their feet and the defendant is getting a “speedy trial” by legal standards.
