The gym was packed at River Ridge High School as everyone wanted to see the highly anticipated game between the top team in the state – the undefeated Galena Pirates – and the one team many thought was the only one that had a chance of tripping them up in the NUIC – the RR/SM Wildcats.
And while loyal Wildcat fans were hoping the game would be close, nobody was disappointed as the two powerful squads put on a track meet that never seemed to slow down.
Both teams were implementing a full court press, and both relied on strong defense to earn transition baskets. But after the first eight minutes...
