For those of you who have never watched a cross-country meet, there is not much excitement as you watch kids run – just run. But, if you pay closer attention, you see the exhaustion that is unescapable; you know the legs are aching as some feel the need to simply walk in small stretches; and you can hear them gasping for breath as the lungs scream for more oxygen.
No, there is very little strategy, and an offense and defense don't exist, but it is the pure endurance of the athletes which is so admirable.
