Winslow

Clifford “Tip” F. Reuber, 100

Clifford “Tip” F. Reuber age 100, of rural Winslow, IL passed away on Friday, December 17, 2021, at the Aster Retirement Community of Monroe, WI.

He was born at his parent’s home in Dakota, IL on March 17, 1921, the son of Charlie and Helen (Bartelt) Reuber. He married Corabelle J. Ellis on October 28, 1942, at the home of her parents, which was part of the J. Lincoln Homestead established in 1844. A lifelong resident of Stephenson County he farmed with his wife since 1951. Clifford retired from farming in 1992. He attended the Buena Vista country school in Stephenson County, and Dakota rural school and 1 year at Dakota High School. He attended the American Aircraft Institute in Chicago, IL. for aircraft mechanic and assembly. Clifford was handy with many things, and he built their own home. He gave many hours of volunteer work for the Christian Hollow Cemetery at Winslow, IL. Clifford’s hobbies included antique restoration, metal, woodworking and repairing antique engines. Clifford was a member of the United Methodist Church of Winslow, IL., the Model A Ford Yesteryear Antique Club of Monroe, WI, the Maytag Collectors Club, Stephenson County Antique Engines Club, and the Pecatonica Valley Antique Club.

He is survived by his 2 daughters: Doris (Arthur) Butler Jr. of Roscoe, IL and Rita (Sam) Vitale of Brookings, OR. Grandchildren; Sherri (Rob) Zimmerman of Pecatonica, IL, Sheila (Rick) Amborn of Seward, IL, Clifford “Cliff” (Lisa) Vitale of Sacramento, Ca, Salvatore “Sal” (Katie) Vitale of Shingles Spring, CA. Great grandchildren: Zachary (Stephanie) Amborn, TJ (Amanda) Amborn, and Merisa (Tim) Ritschard, and Kaitlin (Sam) Jackson, and Kyle Zimmerman, Kaylee and Evangeline “Eva” Vitale, Sydney and Parker Vitale; 5 great great grandchildren; sister-in-law Dorothy Ditzler; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Corabelle in 2008. 1 brother; Warren (Ruth) Reuber, 2 sisters; Marilyn Auvinen, and Norma (Francis) Lotta.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 12:00-3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at the Winslow Community Center in Winslow, IL. A light lunch will be served.

Burial was held at Christian Hollow Cemetery in Winslow, IL.

Lena

Dennis Eugene Nolan, 70

Dennis Eugene Nolan, age 70 of Lena, IL, went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 25, 2022. He was born on July 4,1951 in Freeport, IL, to Orville and Lucille (Wales) Nolan. Dennis married Sally Hildebrand on October 25, 1972 in Orangeville, IL.

Dennis graduated from Lena-Winslow High School in 1969. He then served his country in the United Sates Army from 1971-1973. He worked for Lena Builders for over 30 years as a component designer.

Dennis was a devoted member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Las Vegas Raiders fan. He enjoyed fishing, attending his grandchildren’s sporting and musical events, and loved spending time with family and friends.

Dennis is survived by his two daughters- Stacey (Mike) Plavchak of Lakeland, FL, and Mindy McNutt of Lena, IL; 4 grandchildren- Gabi Brinkmeier, Natalie and Hayden McNutt, Kayleigh Plavchak; twin brother David (Fawn) Nolan of Lena; and several nieces and nephews.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; wife Sally; son-in-law Jeremy McNutt; mother and father-in-law Janet and Neal Hildebrand; sister Mary Brown and brother-in-law Dennis Brown.

Visitation took place from 9:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on Saturday March 5, 2022 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lena. Funeral services followed beginning at 11:30 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lena. Officiating was Rev. Rick Bader. Interment took place at Lena Burial Park.

Freeport

Shirley A. Havens, 86

Shirley A. Havens, age 86 of Freeport, IL, passed away on Friday, February 25, 2022. She was born on May 7, 1935; the daughter of the late Lester and Mildred (Brubaker) Roach. She attended Freeport High School and Highland Community College receiving a GED and Food Certification. Shirley married Clarence J. Havens on February 24, 1954; he passed on June 26, 1991.

Shirley was a loving homemaker, dedicated to raising her family. She also worked at Atwood Automotive in Stockton as well as Wal-Mart in Freeport. Shirley and Clarence owned and operated C&S Truck Stop in Stockton for 17 years.

She enjoyed flowers and bargain shopping at garage sales and thrift stores. Shirley was a talented baker and would make cookies for fellow residents at Prairie Ridge. When it came to playing games; Scrabble, euchre, and crossword puzzles were her favorites. She also loved sewing, making clothes for her children, and sewing BINGO bags which she also sold on eBay. She sewed more than 2000 of those bags in her 25 years of making them.

She is survived by her children, Debra (David) Jordan of Freeport, Cindy (Harold) Walters of Missouri, Sam (Rosemary) Havens of Freeport, Randall Havens of Glasgow KY, Brenda (Simone) Lopez of Emporia, KS, and Nancy (Tim) Brown of Afton, TN; grandchildren, Chad Jordan, Brad (Holly) Jordan, Brian (Stephanie Riedel) Jordan, Angela Walters, Joshua (Nicole) Walters, Corey Havens, Colton Havens, Krista (Joel) Ekberg, Rhyan Havens, Qhyn Havens, Tonya (Richard Hicks) Ockerman, Shawn Ockerman, Stacy (Kevin) Greene, Lyndsey Ockerman, and Jay Brown; great grandchildren, Nathaniel Jordan, Chase Jordan, Blake Jordan, Reed Jordan, Connor Jordan, Kiersten Jordan, Bailey Jordan, Zoey Jordan, Draven Walters, Dorian Walters, Skylar Walters, Michael Hicks, Carter Ockerman, Keelee Greene, and Lucas Greene; great great grandchild, Addison Jordan; brother, Kenneth (Diane) Roach; sisters, Linda Luke and Diane (Roger) Folgate; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 brothers, and 2 sisters.

The funeral service was held on Thursday, March 3, 2022 at Oakland Cemetery & Mausoleum in Freeport at 11:30 a.m. with a visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m. A memorial fund has been established in her name. Condolences may be shared at http://www.walkermortuary.com.
