The changeup has been an effective pitch in area softball. So much so, that most batters deliberately lay off of it when they see it coming. Not only does it throw off a hitter's timing, but it's coming in so slow that even when people do hit it, they end up with lazy fly balls on the infield, or a slow roller back to the pitcher.
Most pitchers, however, struggle throwing a changeup for strikes. So the strategy is to let it go past, take the ball, and wait for something better to try and hit.
