There are displays of power football, and then there is the performance turned in by the Lena-Winslow Panthers Friday night in Lena against a very strong and talented Galena Pirate squad.
Galena came in as the eighth ranked team in 1A, and threw a dagger early when Ethan Hefel dropped back on the very first play of the game and launched a deep pass down the far sideline to Khalid Newton. The pass was a tad short, but Newton reached back, hauled it in, and still beat the Panther secondary for the 80 yard touchdown.
The extra point kick made it a 7-0 Pirate lead with only 13 seconds gone.
