  • Beware New Phone Scam

    May 25, 2022

Jo Daviess County Sheriff Kevin Turner is warning the public about a possible telephone scam occurring in Jo Daviess County. The scammer telephones a resident and will either impersonate a family member who is in need of money, or will claim they are an attorney representing a family member who is in legal trouble and is in need of money. The scammer will then attempt to convince the victim to wire a significant amount of money in order to help the family member. Sheriff Turner urges the public to exercise extreme caution if they receive...

  • Be A Responsible Pet Owner

    May 11, 2022

Why should you spay or neuter your pet? Spayed and neutered pets are better behaved. They are less likely to roam, yowl, wail, bite, or display aggressive behavior. Intact males will do just about anything to find mates, including escaping your home, which puts them at risk of injury or fights with other males. Roaming can expose your pet to dangerous diseases. Overpopulation is another known reason. There are just not enough homes available, especially for cats. Spaying and neutering can help...

  • You Have Spoken

    Dan Stevens|Apr 20, 2022

We got a much stronger response than we thought we would in regard to what things to cut from the paper. The puzzle page didn’t make it – best comment about it was that too much of it was geared towards little kids, and our market is more High School kids and their parents. However, many did like the puzzles, so we are going to look for some stand-alone puzzles we can put in. The Court Report got a big reaction both ways, but the best idea we got came in from Joe Vaske who asked why we cou...

  • Changes In The Making

    Dan Stevens|Apr 20, 2022

Concerns seem to be misplaced regarding recent actions voted upon by the Freeport Park District. Specifically, at their April 5 meeting, the Park Board voted to declare the two homes owned by the Park District – one at the entrance to Krape Park, and the other on the Park Hills Golf Course – to be declared, "Surplus Property." By making the declaration, it allows the District to either sell the property, rent them, or tear them down to make room for some other purpose – but that's what spark...
