The students then went to action in making their own butter and ice cream. Fun was had by all...

If you were to contact any School District in the region – or even in the state for that matter – and ask them what is the toughest job position they have to fill, the answer would be immediate – Bus Drivers! Every single school district is in need of either full time or substitute bus drivers – but what makes that job so hard to fill? To begin with, a CDL is needed to drive one of the large school busses we see on the roads today, and the process of getting a CDL is not simply taking a test. "...

Residents have seen the large solar array being constructed just outside of town on Cedarville Road, but few knew who was doing it, or what sparked the project. The short answer is – the School District is going to pull in some major benefits – thanks in no small part to some creative work by Superintendent Tom Chiles. "The decision to investigate solar was through quite a bit of marketing to all schools when Solar Renewable Energy Certificates (SREC) became available for federal tax red...

It took a grand total of one day – one – and already the Warren School District had to send out an emergency notice to everyone that school would NOT begin as originally planned. Instead, they will go to a virtual format for the next two weeks. So what happened? Simple – two office staff members tested positive for COVID. As area schools try to prepare for the students to return and classes to begin, the realization of just what they are up against simply keeps growing. For example: How do yo...
This week, students throughout the region will be returning to school in spite of the Covid pandemic. While there are many who doubt the wisdom of this move, and others who doubt the seriousness of the pandemic itself, that debate is for another day. The question we wanted to look into was – how many families are actually sending their kids back to the classroom, and what chances do the various schools in our region have of making it work? Every student, at every school, was given the o...

Throughout the region, area school districts have gotten their return to school plans approved, and while they might vary from district to district, they all have one thing in common – the ability for a family to have their kid "Opt out" of face-to-face learning and only do it at home online. But before you jump to your decision on whether or not to opt out, you had better look at the complete picture. Now, in no way shape or form, do I think I know better than a parent regarding the best a...
The date is set for students to return to school in Illinois, and every school within our coverage area will be back in session by August 19th, but exactly what form of teaching that will include varies greatly, and is still far from certain. You could check every single school district's website, and on each and every one you would find the same response in regard to returning during Covid-19: "The health of our staff and students is a primary concern of our district. At this time,...
