  • Bulldogs Hold Off Depleted Blackhawks

    Dan Stevens|Dec 18, 2019

On paper, Stockton didn't stand a chance. Their best defender, and slashing ball-handler, Lizzie Eisfeller, was still out with a concussion, leaving Stockton with some serious match up problems against the Aquin Bulldogs. And while the game itself was a collection of missed bunnies and turnovers, it also went down to the wire in a 38-35 chess match claimed by Aquin. The stage was set in the first half as Stockton struggled offensively. Tiana Timpe hit an early three, but then got a ton of...

  • Warriors Stop Bronco Charge

    Dan Stevens|Dec 18, 2019

The Broncos came into the contest on a three game winning streak to open the season, while Warren was coming off a flat performance at Lena where the Panthers spanked them unceremoniously. But the two up and coming athletic teams were deadlocked at 36-36 after three quarters of play Wednesday night in Orangeville. Zach Baker broke the tie with an old fashioned three point play on a power move in the paint against the Warrior 1-2-2 zone defense, but Ethan Williams returned the favor a minute...

  • How Good Are These Guys?

    Dan Stevens|Dec 18, 2019

The Polo Marcos came into their non-conference battle with Lena-Winslow fresh off of an impressive victory of Oregon, so it was expected to be a serious test for the Panthers who were still suffering from a football hangover. But instead, Luke Benson drained a three on the opening possession, and Lena-Winslow never looked back as they blitzed the Marcos 52-21 in a running clock victory. A major key was visible in the first period as the Marcos were trying to run a three man weave along the...

  • Test Your Christmas Spirit

    Dan Stevens|Dec 18, 2019

The Christmas Season is in full swing, but not everyone we've talked to – yours truly included – have been able to say that they are filled with the joys of the Holidays. So how do we determine how much Christmas Spirit a person has? And exactly what is this Christmas Spirit anyway? Why is it that some people long for the chance to walk the streets in sub-zero weather singing carols, while others dread the prospect of hauling decorations down from the attic and making the obligatory trip to see...

  • Point To Ponder

    Dan Stevens|Dec 18, 2019

With the Holiday season now upon us, the theaters and television stations have begun to release this year’s set of Christmas Movies. But which ones are the best? Which ones do you have to see each year? Everybody has their own personal favorites, so I took it upon myself to compose this list of my best, and worst, holiday movies. The Classic Favorites: (They may be old, but they’re excellent!) It’s A Wonderful Life - I can still remember the first time I saw it as a kid - thinking my parents wer...

  • Preacher's Piece

    Kevin Cernak|Dec 18, 2019

An elderly widow decided it was too much trouble to get all of her kids and grandkids’ Christmas presents, so she decided to send them a check with a card. A few days after she mailed all the cards, she discovered she forgot to include the checks in the cards. Imagine all those kids opening a card from grandma with a note inside that says, “Buy your own presents.” Recently, I was reading an article that said all the traditional Christmas movies have the real meaning of Christmas veiled in the s...

  • Pantherhawk Dominance Continues

    Dec 18, 2019

It took a little while for the Lena-Winslow football players to get into wrestling shape, but the remaining stars – Gennings Dunker and Marey Roby – returned to action for the Pantherhawks, and both are undefeated on the young season. The Pantherhawks went south without being really challenged, but then last week took on both Erie and Oregon with similar results as they stand 7-0 on the season. Twas ten days before Christmas and all through the room Was a terribly heavy feeling of impending doom. No gifts had been purchased, nothing was wrapped, While holiday commercials made us all feel quite trapped. The Christmas duties were almost all done But nobody ever said they would ever be fun. The lights were all tangled, and some would not light, It took hours to fix them in quite a long fight. We put them on both the high and lower house roof, But compared to our neighbor, we looked like...
