  • Pumpkinfest Is On ... Kind Of

    Dan Stevens|Sep 23, 2020

Every other small town festival in Northwest Illinois had been canceled, so it was almost a sign of hope that Warren is going to still hold their annual Pumpkinfest celebration this coming weekend in Warren. But the excitement over having the event has been tapered by rumors that the Jo Daviess County Health Department has cancelled some of the events – which prompted us to find out if there was any truth behind the rumors. "We didn't cancel anything," said Jo Daviess County Health A...

  • Small It Is

    Dan Stevens|Sep 23, 2020

The readers have spoken, and we got an overwhelming response in regard to what size the Voices should adopt moving forward. And in a race that wasn’t very close, 73% wanted the smaller size publication. Concerns were that the font size would shrink – but we promise not to do that. And the concern over losing some content also came up, but we do have the ability to add pages if the editorial calls for it and advertising count can support the move. But reasons people gave for wanting the sma...

  • Preacher's Piece

    Kevin Cernak|Sep 23, 2020

Thomas Jefferson talked about the Wall of Separation between Church and State. Jefferson’s intent in that Wall of Separation was to keep the State from overtaking the church or demand that we worship a certain way. But that is now interpreted the exact opposite. That Wall of Separation that was built to protect religious freedom and protect the church from the State is now protecting the State from the Church. And rather than the State protecting our right to worship, they are intent on d...

  • Point To Ponder

    Dan Stevens|Sep 23, 2020

(Fair warning, this hasn’t been a ‘fun’ week.) Of all the things that are hard to do in life, to me at least - the hardest is having to say, “goodbye.” We all have what we see as our own personal “normal” - the people who are in our lives on a regular basis - whether it’s a weekly phone call just to touch base, or seeing someone on a regular basis ... people we know and love who all make up our own personal world. I’ll get to the point - my mom is not doing well. She’s been in an independent liv...
