My wife and I are in Branson, Missouri this week along with some friends at a Fellowship of Christian Farmers International Convention. On the way down here, St. Louis got 9 inches of rain before we traveled through. We knew it was wet, but it wasn’t until the next day we found out how much rain they got. Just west of St. Louis, we came across a semi stuck in the median, another was tipped on its side, and there was a car that spun out in the rain and went through the guardrail - but God was g...
OK, in case you haven’t noticed, I am not too big on fashion. In fact, I couldn’t care less about it. When it comes to clothing, my top priorities are comfort and function. And the two are very different. For example, while I would much rather wear a short sleeved shirt in the summer, I don’t wear t-shirts much for one simple reason – I need a shirt pocket to keep my phone handy. Now, many would simply say – why not put your phone in a pant pocket – but when you are as large as I am, not onl...

Doing more - or at least maintaining the same level - with less, is the everyday challenge for the leaders at the Freeport Police Department and other smaller area departments as well. The staff of sworn officers always seems to be at a bare minimum level leaving the command staff constantly searching for new faces to hire in order to help boost the ranks. Never before have police departments had to resort to crafting TV commercials and flood social media with "we're hiring" promotional ads,...

I don’t want to say it’s too hot in my room, but two Hobbits just came around and threw a ring in it. The heat index is somewhere between OMG and WTF. No, that’s not true. Today the heat index is somewhere between boob sweat and Satan’s Anus. The heat this summer has been brutal. Not only can you fry an egg on the sidewalk, but you can also use your mailbox as a toaster oven. Summer heat is proof that Mother Nature is menopausal. A heat wave? In the summer? But that NEVER happens! Except every year, at the exact same time, ever since … forever....
