One always meets some very interesting characters when traveling. My wife and I do our fair share of traveling at this stage of our lives. We have family that live in all parts of the United States. Besides Wisconsin, we have family in Tennessee, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Wyoming, Kansas, Colorado, Alabama, Louisiana, and Montana. We’ve been to most or all of those places to visit at one time or another. Sometimes we drive. And other times we fly. It just depends on the situation and t...
Baseball and Softball Regionals get underway this week, so it's time to try and guess who we think might be holding up a Regional plaque by Saturday. Baseball Baseball is the hardest one to figure out because so much of it depends on pitching, and with the pitch count rules and limited 1A rosters ... a team can be a world beater with their ace on the mound, and struggle mightily when he's not. So, when faced with a very difficult decision, I went to the tried and true method of flipping a coin....
“Why do I have to learn this stuff? I’m never going to use it.” You hear that question in almost every Algebra and high level math class across the country, and students have been asking it for decades. I was no different. When I was a student, I never asked that question - but I thought about it - A LOT. I’m sure we all did at one time or another. In our teenage years, when we’re trying to assert your adulthood, rebellion is natural, and if we didn’t see the value in something ... why were we...

Don’t call me lazy, I’m just motivationally challenged. I’m not lazy. I’m just saving my energy for when I really need it. Somebody said today that I’m lazy … I nearly answered. You shouldn’t get mad at lazy people. They didn’t do anything. He’s so lazy, when he won the award for laziness, he sent someone else to pick it up. Lazy is a very strong word, I like to call it ‘Selective Participation.’ Lazy – when your mind is alert and making plans, but your body is in server maintenance mode. I’m not lazy, I just really enjoy doing nothing. Lazy...

Some of the people closest to me are involved in the agriculture industry. When my husband and I got married, over half of our bridal party was involved in the agriculture industry. That might explain why we got married in December. It is simple to say that many of the people that are near and dear to me are involved in agriculture in one way or the other. This means I worry about them during planting and harvesting season, when they are putting in longer hours and are moving from field to...

For our program on Monday May 20, 2024, Country Crossroads Quilt Guild, will present Linda Halpin from Reedsburg, Wi. Linda will be presenting a trunk show of quilts featuring her diminutive 1” x 1” pieced squares and triangles. This style of quilt all started with Linda’s fascination with using tiny scraps that were cutaways during construction of quilts. Making new creative ways of using these scraps became a trademark of her quilts. Linda will have copies of her books for sale as well as some retired quilts available for purchase; cash...
When last week's Freeport City Council meeting was finally over, the unofficial scorecard read – 18 important agenda items, 21 inane, pointless or flat-out stupid questions, and one mic drop stunner at the very end. But when all was said and done, they actually got some things accomplished. First the important stuff: The proposal to allow the Lindo Theater to serve alcohol was approved by a 5-2 vote with Sellers and Stacey being the only two council members to vote against it. (For the r...
