As reported within our pages, there was a major controversy last year in regard to the Taste Of Lena – specifically with how the group LASER (Lena Area Special Event Runners) had asked the Lena Lions Club to sponsor and run the event, but then "stole" it by having patrons write checks out to LASER and not the Lions, and then refusing to let the Lions even see the books, let alone make sure the profits from the event went back to support the Lena community. Congratulations go out to James Whitson of Freeport who was the only one to pick UConn to win the NCAA Tournament, making him the winner of our contest. About three weeks ago we had 15 inches of snow. As I type these words, we've now had a week of 80 degree weather. Lena Roger W. Lobdell, 81 Roger W. Lobdell, 81, of rural Lena, IL, passed away on Easter Sunday, April 9, 2023 the angels came to take Roger home, where he was welcomed by loving family members including his baby grandson Jacob.
