Pearl City's Fallyn Endress should probably have scrambled eggs and cheese for breakfast more often. "I was just feeling it," Endress said with a grin. "I was hot during warm up and just stayed that way." The senior guard tallied 24 points to lead all players in the Wolves' conference home win over Lena-Winslow 50-44. The first half was an offensive explosion for both teams. Pearl City repeatedly used their height advantage to score inside, and when Endress began forcing turnovers, she was...
River Ridge senior, Joe Winter, is quickly developing a reputation for freezing opponents out of the victory column. And behind a 27 point effort, Stockton learned the hard way what can happen when he, "decides to play." "Yeah, Joe can do just about anything he wants to when he sets his mind to it," said Wildcat head coach Jacob Green. At the outset of the game, Stockton looked to contain the Wildcat size advantage by playing a zone defense, but Winter repeatedly got the ball inside and either...
The Orangeville Broncos forced Pecatonica into 16 turnovers in the game, and held superstar Elaina Rager to 16 points on the night. So, you would think – seeing those stats – that the Broncos had a good night. You'd be wrong. The Broncos shot a paltry 28% from the floor, and only made 1 of 15 from behind the three point arc, as what was supposed to be the knock-down, drag-out, battle for the top spot in the North turned into an ugly 40-24 blow out that both teams were unhappy with. "Sixteen tur...
On Friday, January 24 the Carroll County Farm Bureau Young Leaders will host their Annual Harvest For All Campaign. For those who may not be familiar with this program, Harvest for All is a program within the Young Leader Committees of Illinois Farm Bureau to combat food insecurity across the state. Each January the Carroll County Farm Bureau Young Leaders collect corn from local farmers, sell it and then donate the proceeds to Carroll County Food pantries. This year the event will take place...
Dan; Printed in your "newspaper" is not a "certfied (sic) copy." Aa (sic) a matter of fact for court purposes news stories are considered hearsay. Now, if you want the $40, get me a certified copy. I really thought you were a more astute reader. John Samuel Cook For the record, I'm not the only one with Tutty's log in credentials. Editor’s Note: I’d like to say I’m shocked that you’d welch on your offer. But … I’d be lying. Hearsay? Really? Are you really that stupid, or is that the best excuse you could come up with? So, if I printed your name...
If my memory serves me correctly, my earliest recollection as a child was when I was just under three years old and my mom and dad brought my baby brother home from the hospital after he was born. Another brother and I were staying at our aunt’s house. We were playing outside that day when we saw dad coming up the driveway in our family station wagon. As he got closer, I saw mom in the passenger seat. Dad pulled up and stopped and there was mom holding this little blond baby in her arms all wrap...
I’ve never really cared about my age. I mean, as far as I was concerned, it was just a number. In fact, the only time my age ever did come up was when talking with friends about stuff where their “lack” of age and experience was a factor. My favorite was a sports conversation I can still remember having with current Lena-Winslow Athletic Director, Ryan Hahne. We were talking about baseball blunders, and – naturally – I brought up the most famous one. “It wasn’t as bad as Bill Buckner, but it was...
The main point of any sports story should never be the referees. The game between the Pecatonica and Stockton girls basketball teams was supposed to be a top five show down, full of hot shooters and star players making big plays. But, instead, the story of the game was how Pecatonica was able to adjust to the physicality of play being allowed, by the men in stripes much better than Stockton. Make no mistake, the officiating was not one sided, it was not unfair, it was perfectly bad both ways....

Wayne Duckmann, the Director of Community and Economic Development for the City of Freeport, just became my favorite Freeport employee. For those who may have missed it, I encourage you to check out the You Tube video of the Freeport City Committee of the Whole (COW) meeting held on January 13th. There were several things on the agenda, and in a nutshell – a ton of time was wasted going over a lot of stuff that could have been done in a matter of minutes if all of the Council Members actually re...

Everybody who has ever watched an Orangeville Bronco Girl's Basketball game this season knows – Laney Cahoon is their most dangerous player, and Nadalee Doyle is only one step behind. And while both of them had their typical double digit scoring performances, it was the play of the "X-factor," the supporting cast, that allowed them to pull away from Dakota 52-39 in NUIC North action. Dakota has been flying under the radar most of the season, but this team is young, and has some serious t...
