We know there are a ton of people who share in this sentiment, but 2020 will probably not be fondly remembered by many of us. Whether it was the pandemic, the ugly political scene nationally, or the hardships of cancellations and quarantine, everyone is anxious to turn the page and get closer to returning to normal. Be that as it may, our first issue of the year is always dedicated to looking back at what took place the previous year, so while we are certain you already know what the number one...

Thank you, The Gabel Family Hello Mr. Sacia~ I realize much time has passed since your December 2, 2020, One Man’s Opinion in Village Voices; however, the national political scene has not changed much. In fact, it has become worse. I write this on J...

It’s been a topsy turvy several weeks. This election has left many scratching their heads and some with a giant knot in their gut because it appears an injustice has occurred. Maybe so. Many of us are frustrated and disgusted by the inconsistencies that took place on November 3rd and the media’s lack of interest in investigating and reporting it. On the other hand, some people are thrilled by the outcome. I’d be lying if I said I was not disappointed. So where do we go from here? Well, first...
It’s not easy for me to have a vacation. I mean, when you look at the weekly schedule needed to put the paper out, there just really isn’t any convenient “weekend” to go out for a day or two. Fridays are deadline days, Saturdays are needed for pagination, Sunday is for final changes and posting that week’s issue on the website, the paper itself is due to press Sunday night, and Tuesday is delivery day when we drive all over the region dropping off bags of papers. So with Monday as “technica...
All of the sheets have been graded – but we still have the College Football Championship to factor in – and that was scheduled to take place after we had to go to press. However, the top five players all took Alabama, and when we went through all of the standings – there might be movement within the rankings, but it will not change the prizes being awarded. I have faith in Pfizer and its Covid vaccine because it also makes Viagra. If Pfizer can raise the dead, it can save the living. My New Year resolution was to lose weight. So far I've lost my motivation to lose weight. I'm tired of wishing my friends peace, love and health. Blah, Blah, Blah. This year I wish you tons of sex, booze, a winning season for your favorite team and that you win the lotto! Happy New Year! Don't forget to make some resolutions you'll never keep and put up a new wall calendar you'll never look at. I was going to quit all...
State Sen. Brian Stewart (R-Freeport) says he is standing shoulder to shoulder with local law enforcement officials who have expressed serious concerns about several provisions in a criminal justice reform proposal currently awaiting action by Illinois lawmakers. The 45th District Senator says he strongly opposes House Bill 163 because its provisions are a blatant attack on the law enforcement profession, and it leaves communities vulnerable to criminal acts and violence. “We should renew our commitment to the police officers who put their l...
